We must not succumb to fear and hate. As Marie Curie said: “Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”
Lauri Carlton understood because she took the time to learn from and about people who are too often seen as different and therefore undesirable. Although Lauri's journey has come to an abrupt end, her spirit still embraces us and reminds us to treat each other as brothers and sisters regardless of sexual orientation or other superficial differences. It is now for us to honor her life and her cause with open minds and welcoming hearts, letting her kindness and acceptance be our guiding light.
Lauri was murdered for displaying a Gay Pride flag in front of her store.
